As a total non-hiker, I am so intrigued and impressed by all of this! I'm actually heading on a two day hike for the very first time next month (a very gentle hike, with no camping involved, it must be said) so your insight couldn't come at a better time!

Oooh can't wait to hear about your hike! I'm keen to try one where you get to rest your head somewhere comfy at the end of the day... although not much beats sleeping beneath a sky full of stars.

Hey Celine

There's an excellent bookshop in Queenscliff and a took a photo for you but I guess I can't share it here. Anyway, 'Waymakers: an anthology of women's writing about walking' from Kerri Andrews might be worth a look (and it was right next to 'Live Like a Lobster: how to extend life, avoid disease and confront cancer.' Just saying.)

I feel like the tent is the key here. I'd be too intimidated by the thought of a six day hike, but the tent seems like the big barrier. In fact, this entire list of packing essentials goes a long way towards easing my nervousness.

That, and the revelation that dehydrated apple crumble is a thing omggg

Oh you would love dehydrated apple crumble, I'm sure of this. The packing is definitely the most daunting bit, particularly knowing you'll have to unpack and repack every day... but you do get into a rhythm of sorts!
