I need to have the plant survival tips framed somewhere obvious so my plant murder spree can finally end.
When it comes to plants telling you what they need, I can imagine discolouration and drooping leaves might be giveaways. Are there any more subtle or surprising things to keep an eye out for?
I suppose other things I look out for are - is it awkwardly turning itself towards the sun, or getting a bit leggy? This may indicate that placement isn't quite right. How does it respond to a new fertiliser or potting mix? Any new growth? Is it too cold for it in winter (ie drops leaves) and can putting it under an improvised glasshouse (read: soft drink bottles cut in two) help?
Oh man, I just love my plants so much. You're so right - they really bring so much joy. Losing my fiddle leaf fig earlier this year was truly a low point, but watching propagations take to their new homes and grow leaves has been a total highlight. The drama!
I hear you re orchids. Such a pleasure to bring home and enjoy until despair sets in as one by one those stunning flowers drop off and the deep green glossy leaves start to yellow. But I still buy them. One day…one day…I shall buy one and do everything right and it will reward me by flowering again. Yep.
