Welcome to 'What's cooking with Celine'
The weekly newsletter from Celine – a cook in the kitchen and a normal person just about everywhere else, really.
Welcome to ‘What’s cooking with Celine’, with me. Celine.
Hello! My name is Celine and I’m a cook and urban gardener, living in Melbourne with my boyfriend and my dog. This is my newsletter. Here is my dog:
On the internet, he’s known as The Boy. I love him.
Anyway. Enough gushing.
I’m starting this newsletter for two reasons.
The first is that I hate social media but I miss blogging. And by that, I mean the blogging of the late noughties and early teens/tens (what is the correct terminology for this decade? Is it too soon to call it?), where you poured your thoughts/feelings out on a digital page and connected to random strangers who were actually able to find your content.
Not this SEO-optimised, over-saturated mess we find ourselves in, in late 2022. Can we wipe the internet clean and start again, please?
Plus. I enjoy cooking. I always have. I’m not sure if I’m good at it. Whatever I put on a plate ends up edible in MOST scenarios, but it’s not always pretty to look at. I would like to improve on this front. And learn how to make a good sauce.
Anyway. I love food, cooking, collecting cookbooks, stockpiling recipes, eating out, eating in, tableware, attempting to grow produce in an urban environment and spending way too mush dosh on Le Creuset cookware.
I want a place to talk about all of these things. This should do the trick.
In short, I want to pen (type?) rambling thoughts and engage with people – whether it’s a bunch of my friends and family I’ve pressured into signing up to this experimental newsletter, or random people surfing the information superhighway, who have randomly stumbled upon this newsletter and are a bit like wtf, but I like it. Hi! You should subscribe. Go on. Why not?
So, what can you expect from this newsletter?
A myriad of things!
Adventures in the kitchen. We're gonna get cooking! Or rather I am, and I’ll share the results. You can cook too though! This doesn’t have to be a solo pursuit by any means.
Restaurant reviews. I don’t always want to do the cooking. Sometimes I just wanna eat. Luckily, I live in the ‘foodie capital’ of Australia – Melbourne. There’s no shortage of decent restaurants here, so let’s get exploring.
Garden mishaps. Come on a journey with me as I try to create my own ‘kitchen garden’ in a suburban rental. It’s raised beds all the way bebes, as I tested my soil and it’s full of lead!
Average to middling illustrations!
Literally anything else. Finally, there may be a bit about other things that are interesting perhaps. Books, movies, fashion, travel destinations, random thoughts, I dunno. I’m still working this out structure-wise, so we’ll throw a few slices of buttery toast at the wall and see what sticks.
We’re doing this every second Thursday for now. It’s my least favourite day of the week and I need something to look forward to.
Hope you’re keen to come along for the ride.
– Celine.
